Wolfgang Baur running “One Night in Zobeck”

Author Wolfgang Baur, best known for his long-time work on D&D products and, most recently, on the Open Design project, will be running a mini-adventure at Emerald City Gamefest. The demo game is called “One Night in Zobeck”.

Wolfgang’s recent projects — Empire of Ghouls, Castle Shadowcrag and Steam & Brass, as well as the upcoming Six Arabian Nights — have been published under the Open Design model. Back in the day, artists were subsidized by their patrons, people who would pay them to write something, usually with some amount of input into what was written. The Open Design project is exactly that, on a different scale.

Wolfgang proposes 6-10 different ideas, some adventures, some supplement products, and with each item he posts how much money/patrons he’ll need to fund the project. Whichever product gets the most votes, or is fully-funded by patrons signing up first, is the one that gets created. Wolfgang takes about 4-6 months to create the supplement, and has essays, requests for input, and playtests all the way by his patrons. He’s wrapping up the third project now, and he’s going to begin the fourth one soon. All have been quality products.

Wolfgang is also known as the publisher of the gaming magazine Kobold Quarterly. We are very pleased to have him as a guest at the next ECG event.

As a reminder, the event is held on Saturday November 17, 2007, from 1 to 5 pm at Third Place Commons. The street address is 17171, Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155.
